In the backpacking community, “Trail Magic” is anything awesome and unexpected that happens out on a trail. Let’s say you’re hiking up a steep mountain on what might be the hottest day of the year. You get to the summit and you are tired and honestly a bit miserable and then you look down and there is a huge cooler labeled “trail magic” and it’s filled with ice cold Gatorades! A hiker that wished they had a cold drink when they were there hiked up with a cooler to leave it for hikers coming behind them. it’s all about paying it forward.

My Appalachian Trail thru hike was filled with moments like this, so I find ways to do “trail magic” for others on and off the trail.
